Introduction to Primary Health Care (IPHC) Content: Lecture Phase: The first 12 weeks is the lecture phase. This phase is spent in all kinds of creative ways. Topics covered include: - Anatomy and Physiology of the 10 body systems and related diseases and conditions; The lecture phase is an intensive period of study. The class study day fits into local school hours, so as to be open to parents. There will however be much personal study required outside of these hours during the afternoons and/or evenings. Outreach Phase: Following the completion of the lecture phase, the field assignment provides an opportunity for students to use their newly acquired skills in a developing nation. This phase of the school is an integral part of the school. The simple act of teaching a community to wash their hands can save countless children from a premature death and also gives the students opportunity to share their faith in Jesus. In all circumstances the work done by the school will be co-ordinated alongside existing local government initiatives. Recent outreaches have been to Uganda which included working in a rural clinic and undertaking an immunization program on the Bavuma Islands on Lake Victoria. The school hope to build on this work year on year and extend our outreaches to Mindanao in the Philippines. So if you have any questions just get in touch, we'd love to hear from you...
